Abstract

This study aims to investigate university professors’ level of perception regarding artificial intelligence (AI) applications and the future challenges associated with their integration into the educational and research processes, through a field study at Constantine 3 University (Salah Boubnider). Using a descriptive approach, a survey sample of 40 male and female professors was selected. A questionnaire was developed for field data collection, comprising 15 items distributed across three main dimensions: professors’ awareness, applications, and challenges.

Following statistical processing using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS 26), the study revealed the following results:

There is a statistically significant level of perception among professors regarding AI applications at the significance level (α = 0.05), accompanied by a high awareness of future challenges associated with their use, such as academic integrity and a lack of infrastructure.

There are no statistically significant differences attributable to the variables of age and teaching seniority, confirming that awareness of the requirements of digital transformation represents a shared academic conviction across different age groups and professional experience levels among faculty members.

There are statistically significant differences in the degree of awareness and application attributable to the gender variable, in favor of male professors.

The study concluded with a set of recommendations, most notably the need to develop the university’s digital infrastructure, to organize continuous training courses to develop professors’ skills in generative AI, and to draft an ethical charter regulating its use in the academic environment.
